✨ Join us for a 40 Day Eye & Ear Gate Fast ✨
As we prepare our hearts for the Feast of Tabernacles and 7 Days of Praise, we feel strongly led to go back to something God spoke to us many years ago: a 40 Day Fast of the Eye & Ear Gates.
Nehemiah 8 reminds us of the power of gathering together in God’s appointed times, tuning our hearts to hear His Word clearly. But just like our homes need seasonal filter changes for clean air, our spiritual “filters” need cleansing too. What we allow through our eyes and ears affects how clearly we can hear His voice when He speaks.
About 19 years ago, before social media distractions, our family fasted from TV, radio, and unnecessary noise. We rearranged our home to make space for conversations, time around the table, and evenings by the fire where God re-tuned our hearts to Him and knit us closer together.
This season, we believe He’s calling us back. Starting Thursday, August 28th, we are setting aside 40 days to fast from anything that doesn’t edify and build up our spirit. That means limiting Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other media to only what’s necessary for connection, while guarding the eye and ear gates for His glory.
Instead of doom scrolling and binge watching mindlessly, choose things like watching "The Chosen" and opening your physical Bible together at the dinner table; instead of listening to secular music, live stream a prayer room or worship into your living room; invite some friends over for a bible study, do a prayer walk in your neighborhood, join your local church for a mid-week service you normally wouldn't attend, etc.. Choose life-giving things that feed your spirit and your family.
Remember, we are the watchmen first of our own gates before we can be gatekeepers in God's house.
2 Corinthians 6:17 (MSG):
“So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself.”
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
